The Cardassian Uniform, in full colour!

Work has resumed on the Cardassian uniform! I've finally gone from the construction phase to actually painting, which means that it's finally starting to look like it's supposed to! Hooray!

First thing was, I had decided to nix the plasti-dip. I was afraid that the rubber coating would show brush marks if I applied it, and I was pleased with the epoxy finish, so I just put it away.

Then, I went to Lowes. All I had wanted was some charcoal primer as a base coat that I could paint on. But, they had spray on plasti-dip! So, I bought that instead. It's one of those products that you can have in any colour you want, as long as it's black, so I bought it in black.

I applied a layer of the spray-on plasti-dip and let it dry. It was very shiny and black, but it looked fabulous, and gave me the rubber look I was wanting.

As you can see, very, very black. Not exactly the sleek gray colour of the original armour, but still, looking better than the plain white foam with black and gold squiggles all over it!

I dug out my acrylic paints and started mixing up colours to get to the shades that I wanted. Cardassian armour isn't one solid colour, it's about three or four different shades of gray. I tried to get the look down as well as I could, but I don't think I'm quite there yet.

I'll see how I feel about the colours tomorrow, and whether or not I want to give it another coat. I still have to make the 'name badge', which is the little placard that's on the right hand side of the armour, on the smooth 'bust seam'. No one really knows what the placard says, but it's assumed it denotes name and rank in some fashion. Anyway, still have to make that, so maybe I'll sit on the colour for a day or two. I still have so much to do on my other uniforms and commissions, that I probably should take some time to focus on them, especially since August is right around the corner! Eep!
