Fantastic Footwear!

I am so excited.

American Duchess is about to offer her Georgiana shoes for presale!!! You know where I'll be at midnight April 1? That's right...sending in my preorder form.


Aren't they scrumptious? They're made of dye-able silk, so once you receive them, they can become any colour you wish. You can even send in a swatch of your fabric and have them dyed to match! They're fabulous, and I can't wait! (If you click on the pic, it'll take you to the pre-order information.)

In the spirit of the footwear frenzy, I went on eBay and scoured their lady's shoes to try and find a suitable pair for modification. You see, I've had this article, by Loren Dearborn, tucked away in my bookmarks for years now. I've been wanting to try my hand at it for a long time, but...it was scary. I know, I know, that's completely absurd. They're just a pair of shoes! But...it's scary!

Well, I decided that, with the upcoming Madame de Pompadour photoshoot (for when my red contouche is finished), the DFW Costumers' Guild's Georgian picnic, and my new venture into the world of art modeling, it was time to have some proper footwear to go with my gowns.

So, I scoured eBay for some decent shoes to go about modifying, and came up with these:

Not bad, eh? The heel is what sold me on them, and they look like they have a good overall shape to get me from business pump to 18thC. They're black suede and have a little bit of damage and wear, but they're in my size and were a whopping $12 after shipping!

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. I have some plain burgundy taffeta that matches the gown, so I'm thinking of possibly covering them with that, and completing them with either rhinestone buckles, which would match the stomacher, or with pink cockades, which would match the roses on the gown.

There's also part of me that wants to go over-the-top, "I Want Candy" on these shoes, and trick them out a-la-Marie Antoinette.

That pic can't help but make me think of those pastel chocolate Easter egg candies.

Anyway, just waiting on the shoes to arrive so I can tear them apart. More updates to come!
