I've had this sort of silly idea for a while, that I need to make myself a Ferengi costume. Of course...a clothing costume, since Ferengi females aren't actually allowed to wear clothes. So I've been looking at Ferengi outfits from the show that have gone up for auction, and I think I've put together a plausible outfit for a Ferengi female that has struck out on her own to pursue profit across the galaxy.

My inspiration is this wonderful ensemble that Quark wore:

I love the colours, they're right up my alley, and when I saw this outfit, I immediately remembered that I have about five yards of a pink and maroon stipes fabric in The Stash. Perfect!

I decided to be a bit lazy this time around, and instead of drafting a pattern from scratch, I'm just going to butcher a Simplicity pattern and force it to do my bidding. After a little bit of hunting, I found this in Simplicity's costume collection:

It's not exactly perfect, but it looks like it's going to be a good jumping off point for creating a Ferengi style jacket. The only problem is that it doesn't have the seams in the back that I want, which means drafting in new seams. I haven't quite decided yet if I want to do that, because it's almost worth just drafting the whole thing at that point. It'll all depend on how lazy I'm feeling when it comes time to start the project. XP

Before I start on the Ferengi, though, I'll be working to finish the STO uniform, and on conjuring up three Bajoran Vedeks before October. More to come on that in another post!
