2013 in Review

Well, this certainly hasn't been my most productive year. Last year, I finished over 30 costumes. This year, I managed only four. Four! Can't you believe it? After all my grand plans for this year, with SCA stuffs and Medieval Japanese court garb, and I barely managed to get even this completed. Perhaps I was suffering from a bit of costume burnout.
But! I'm sure next year will be much more productive. I already have quite a few events planned for which I'll need new garb and sci-fi things, and...

I am now the lead makeup artist for TWO independent Star Trek fanfilms! So, very soon, you'll be seeing my work on screen. Well...you know...in moving pictures. You know what I mean. This, of course, means that I'll finally have to take the Big Plunge and get into making foam latex prosthetics, which means biting the bullet and building myself a dedicated prosthetics oven, buying new equipment, and learning new sculpting and cast techniques. I promise there will be updates of my progress as I learn all these new goodies. ^^

Aside from learning about foam latex and diving in to all that craziness, I am determined to make a dent in the ever-growing pile of in-progress costumes that I have. Right now there are nearly 40 pieces on the to-do list, several of them very near completion, so I think I'll be able to whittle it down fairly quickly. There are some, however, that require extensive embroidery or alteration, so we'll see how that goes. I'm looking forward to having a clean slate, though, and not have a massive pile of clothes hanging out and staring at me when I start new projects!

I'm also shooting to make a uniform from every era of Star Trek. You know...just in case. You never know when you'll need a certain uniform, after all.

Also, excitingly, I'll be getting a Canon T3i for Christmas! Which will mean better photos, more detail shots, and better tutorials. I'm very excited about playing with my new camera!

Next year looks to be very exciting. And now, this year's costumes:
